But as for the drunk who messed up the A8 there is no excuse for that kind of stupidity.

For that A8 to split in half, the toolbag had to have doing 100 mph + drunk. And like usual, he walks away while killing someone else. Wonder if the judge will throw the book at him.

Alcohol and speed, as noted in the article. They get what they deserve. The only positive notion I can gather from this incident is that it was a single car accident and didn't involve any innocent bystanders.

Misha, you sure are an argumentative curmudgeon sometimes.
The rest of the time you are just a regular curmudgeon.
In this case, it's noble of you to stick up for the Afghanis who killed one of our beloved American A8s.

walked away
The driver of this one survived as well. He was sober but caught air at around 160mph and wrapped himself around a tree. Believe it or not, from the article I read he also walked away from it.

either way a car of this caliber should not break in half, in both cases it shows a very weak structure surrounding the passengers.

One from OP is a bit strange. Just a single photo of something like that. I don't know...

250kmh
in any case if it hit the door the car should be flat on one side not split in half.
the driver walked away, yay.
picture the car with passengers or hit on the driver's side.
to me it looks like the car came unglue.
on the A8 is hard to tell as I can not see the second half but the one in the picture looks like it came apart without a lot of force.

There is quite a bit of difference between auuminum and stell as far as rigidity, compressive strength and tensile strength. Crash testing usually relies on compressive strength for high survival rates. I feel safe in my (now "obsolete")'04.
