Default Right front wheel bearing gone. Quoted by dealer for $1000!!!

I told them are you out of your damn mind!! This car is 78k and you want me to pay 1k for a small wheel bearing? I am pissed off right now. How much is the wheel bearing going for? I hear others are having wheel bearing replaced, what was your final quota?

The car has 120k miles on it now. 2006 Audi A8L.

Parts.com:

Fits years ( 04-09 ) Front suspension, Suspension components, Front wheel bearing, Front wheel bearing, a8, s8
Dealer Price Core Price Savings Final Price
$215.00 N/A $60.20 $154.80

An independent should be able to do it in 1 hr, 2 hrs tops, 3 hrs if he is an idiot. At $125/hr (most charge ~$90), the job should be ~$300-$500.

Cheers

You are right. I found the genuine part to be $240 dollars so I called up my dealer SA and told him the cost for the part and he said he will call me back. I called Auto Europe (independent dealer) and they state that the part was indeed $240 dollars and will be 1-2 hours to do with $230 for labor. So $470 dollars total. Thats what I expected. Forget about my Audi Dealer which I think is ripping me off.

Like George Costanza (in the Seinfeld episode "The dealership") said; Yeah, like I'd get my car serviced at a dealer.... I may as well flush my money down the toilet!

Haha,

I LOVE Seinfeld! BTW, I just want to be careful that I am spending the right amount of money since the car is out of warranty. Thats all.

I had a rear wheel bearing replaced last year by the dealer and it was $500 -- I can't imagine a front one would be *twice* the cost, that's crazy.
