Default Rear Headrests

I want to remove the rear outside headrests in my 2004 A8. It is a 4 seater and the seats are electic but I can't see how to remove the headrests even though there appears to be a clip on the base. I want to get at the rear blind. Any clues? there is nothing in the handbooks.

I can't help you with four seater headrests but I may be able to help you with the rear shade. What do you want to do there?

I've ordered the new aluminium end pieces of ebay and I will want to fit them and hopefully reassemble my rear blind when they arrive......

Default Headrests, etc.

I have the 4 seater in the W12. To get the headrests out, first the seat has to be in the reclined position, meaning moving the lower cushion forward with the electric controls. Only then will it (just barely) clear the rear glass, still with some effort. Aside from that, IIRC you just push on the button on the side of the headrest to get it to move up or down. It's been years since I first pulled mine (I replaced them with lower profile ones from a C6 A6 per my auto sig link below), but I don't recall they had a separate interlock. Some Audi's do, which is typically in one of the base post plastic trim pieces. If so, you would be looking for what seems like a thin slit going around that plastic trim piece where it sits on top of each seat back/leather cover.

To get rear shade out BTW, as I recall you have to pull the rear deck/hat shelf completely. In turn, you have to take the rear seats (the two separate assemblies on the four seater) out. Again, I did it years ago when I had the back glass tinted. The Bentley repair manual does go into all the steps on this.

Click the button in and lift up, its tight but just possible

the centre one can only be removed by removing the rear bench and backrest

Default There is no center/centre one on a 4 seater,

or a rear bench. They are basically separate bucket designs without some trim and with limited adjustments.
