Default PCV Retrofit

Hi, I’m new to the forums. I think my oil separator in my W12 has failed for the second time, now causing an audible vacuum leak and multiple misfires. Audi states it could be up to a month for the part to be made and shipped.

My question is, is it possible to replace this $600 diaphragm based PCV valve with a conventional spring type or ball type pcv found in other vehicles, provided the hoses are retrofitted and put in the right spot?

Does the size and type make that much of a difference? Would the crankcase pressure be messed up if I did that?

Don't do that. It's a combination PCV and oil separator. Lose the oil separator function and expect intake valves to get a lot more oil than now.

If you face time and delay--both reasonable concerns--why not buy on EBay used? Sometimes here, sometimes from places in UK, Lithuania and elsewhere. Where I am increasingly turning for D3 W12 parts, whether because no longer available or way too pricy new. Lots of junkyard donors now too at 18 years old. I have found that when the W12 part comes from Germany to the dealer, it takes as long now as even Lithuania (where I sometimes also find new old stock parts), and UK is typically faster than Audi from Germany. Anywhere in USA, about as fast for domestic Ebay sellers as if it comes via Audi from the US warehouse.

My local dealer, Jim Ellis said the same thing about the time line but they got it to me in about 2 1/2 weeks. If I remember you might be able buy just a new diaphragm. Unfortunately in my situation, my housing was cracked so I didn't pursue it any further.
