Default New owner with question about HVAC controls

I have hung out here for some time. You are a very helpful and pleasant group. After several other Audis, most recently an A6 4.2, in November I bought a 2008 A8 SWB, Black Cherry over Linen with most options. After 3,000 miles, I'm convinced it's the best car on the road. Today, my HVAC control panel started acting strangely. The right hand **** no longer seems to work. So, temp cannot be controlled separately for the right side, nor can the RF seat heater be operated. Have any of you experienced this? The owner's manual isn't much help. Have I missed a setting somewhere or do you think the control head is bad? (No, nothing has spilled into it.) Thanks in advance for any help, and thanks for a great forum.

I haven't had any experience like that with mine, and I'm not aware of any settings which might cause that. Sounds like you may have a bad ****. Have you tried twisting vigorously and pushing it in several times to be sure the contacts are clean and nothing is sticking?

Check the settings in the HVAC Setup menu(separate from MMI setup). I think there's a choice to have both sides work in synch or separately.

Default Can't be that.. If set to synchro, when passenger control is touched synchro is lost.

Suggest you have a bad panel, connection or control module.

Default More malfunctions; at least it's not me!

Thanks to all for the helpful replies. Today, the passenger side temp setting is changing up and down randomly on its own. It's definitely a bad control head or module. With any luck, it will be a simple part replacement that the dealer can actually handle. I will try to get over my feeling that a 2-month-old, $86,000 car shouldn't need this repair. But, I guess we all have to acknowledge that we own Audis because we love how they look and drive, not because they're perfect.

Default Update on the fix

With a new head unit (part came from Audi in no time after dealer ordered it), the car is as good as new. Technician said that he has seen the head malfunction very rarely, and only in quite cold weather.
