Reading this post makes me want to do the oil change on my Q5 myself before I drive it to FL in two weeks. We bought it about 9 months ago and it still has one "free service" that the previous owner purchased when they bought the car.

I'm thinking I don't want a dealer monkey lad to screw the car up before I go on a long trip. I am thinking I will just toss the last service in the garbage to prevent this.

It's really bad that I think this way....but it's probably true.

Default Just make sure to check everything before leaving the dealer

Paul,
On my Q7, the paid maintenance was included for 4 years 50k miles. I took the car back and found the panel wasn't put back in straight, I called the dealer and they told me it wasn't their fault until I told them "either Audi was built wrong or your mechanic didn't do it correctly because since I bought the car new, this is the only dealer the car's been to", they got it straightened out and they said it was under warranty.
I always check the oil before I leave the dealer, besides looking all over the car for nicks, dents and scratches. If it's already paid for, let them do it.

Cheers and good luck,

Louis

I was putting mine off after hearing about the oil filter change but was thoroughly suprised on my TDI to see it on top and easy to reach. I still had to empty the oil from underneath as my extractor hose would not fit all the way to the bottom. I'l have to get a smaller hose and this should make my service even easier.

You disappeared for a while I see, the car must run well, show me your camera retrofit please. I want to see how well the original one works.
Anyhow, I just remembered I did the thermostat on the 2000 A8 4.2 40V for my brother in-law when it had 140k miles on it. The original timing belt was still very good. It does look like the thermostat would go before the belt, that's the mark.

Cheers,

Louis
