MMI Upgrade Help!
Called my local dealerships and 1 said that the MMI upgrades could cost up to $380 for the hours and hours of updating.
Second dealership just referred me back to the first, saying that they weren't authorized to conduct MMI upgrades.
I just got the AMI and I'm in a 2004 A8L. Is there anyway for me to see which version of MMI I'm running? Any recommendations of where to get an upgrade done for free/cheap in So Cal?
Thanks!!

Need to go to car, then version (if not sure which one post a picture)
MMI upgrades can be done by buying the CD from riverside, and may need to have access to VAG-COM in case of a problem.

Hours and hours of updating
Do you really believe that? Do you really think the guy sits there and inputs data? It's no harder than installing updates on your XP machine, it does it for you.

I updated mine on my own at home.
I bought the 3360 disk and did it myself. It took just under 1 hr to complete. The TSB which is linked somewhere on this forum tells you exactly how to complete the upgrade. I bought the disk and followed the instructions. Total Cost: gas to and from the dealership, $9.95 for the disk. The disk part number is listed on teh TSB. I just ordered it as I would any other part from the service desk. After I did the upgrade I did post a lengthy description of what mine looked like while updating. On my next interval service I had the dealer reset the battery charge meter to display on the MMI screen (no charge). This is well documented in the TSB.

Of course it will take....
longer if you upgrade to the latest 4140 disk. So plan accordingly. I still have ver 5 NAV disk and it works fine. I'm a bit tentative to spend $200 for the new one in case it doesn't work.

Get the discs - do the upgrades yourself. I've done the update to 3360 and then 4140. Both were smooth as silk. Note you'll need both - I don't think you can go from 1170 or so directly to 4140. You have to do it incrementally and make sure you run the update multiple times until the car reports nothing left to update.
By the way, I have both discs, and if you pay shipping both ways, I will loan them to you.
