Default Run a Search under MMI Update or Upgrade!

Look under the A8 Platform and follow Instructions. It's been discussed more than you can imagine, but all of the Precautions will be there for you to research. Good luck and laters,

Great, the A8 platform... Where would I find that?

Default completing the upgrade

Performing an MMI upgrade is fairly simple, but the most important thing is to follow instructions to the letter and make sure that the upgrade completes (i.e. don't interrupt it before everything completes). Failure to do so will likely brick the MMI by leaving it in an indeterminate state, which will then cost you several thousand dollars to repair/replace. It didn't take me long when I upgraded from 27xx to 3360, but it may take longer on your car coming from 1190 (hence the recommendation to keep power supplied to the car via a battery charger).

Even though people have said that you can upgrade straight to 4610, skipping the 3360 upgrade, I guess I would recommend that you perform the intermediate 3360 upgrade since you have the CD. You also might want to run with 3360 for a while to see if you like it before doing the 4610 upgrade.

If there is a risk (probably some) why double it?

I think the risk is more likely proportional to the amount of time to perform an upgrade, so the overall risk would be approximately the same if you upgrade to 4610 in one step or two.

you know that's not a bad idea to try 3360 for a bit, anyone know what the main differences are between 3360 and 4610?

What makes you think that one update would last as long as two?

Default update CDs

An update CD appears to be a collection of fixes for a number of various subsystems. If 4610 is cumulative, and you're starting from a version less than 3360, it stands to reason that 4610 must apply all the 3360 updates in addition to the newer updates only found in 4610. If you've already installed 3360 on your vehicle, then I'd expect 4610 would only install the new updates, and hence take less time to install since 4610 has fewer updates to perform. I'm guessing that the time to install 3360 + the time to upgrade from there to 4610 is roughly the same amount of time to install all of 4610 (i.e. starting from a pre-3360 version).

Software updates are usually fixes within programs. Updating is substituting old programs with new ones. They are not necessarily any longer. So it is not like adding layers of software on top of each other. But with Germans you never know.
