I agree, but I also like selling those gears.

Default Remember different markets though...

In the Vaterland, these are commonly owned by folks with drivers, all the way up to Angela Merkel with her Quattro GmbH armored one (small fleet, actually). Very unseemly to have Fritz distracted by the front screen or not appearing to know directions, let alone blast tunes to the pampered back elite. Thus, Fritz can just hide it away among the Black Forest wood and alpine hides.

When I press the open/close button on the dash, the screen doesn't move, but does have the delay before the screen dims blank.

It is currently stuck open, as some on this thread wish so, but I like the movement.

When pressing the button, there is nothing...no noise of a motor and no mtion what so lever.

It seems to be locked into place and is how I purchased the d3.

Any idea if the motor is bad? Etc?

You have gears, do you have a motor?

Or the tool to take the vents out?

Most likely somebody pried it opened and disconnected the motor to avoid repairing it. You should buy replacement gears and fix it. With them you will get instructions how to take it out from the dashboard. It is fairly easy. No need for any special tools.

To take my vents out I used the best tool in the world A coat hanger. Break a piece off from a wire coat hanger and make a hook on the end. they work sweet and are now a part of my tool box.

Hi mishar,

The MMI screen on my 2005 A8 just got stuck in the half way position. I just went to ebay and bought your amazing looking gears and I'm now looking forward to getting this issue worked out.

Great thread and incredible resource! Long live old A8's!

I´m just about to fix my MMI-screen and I´m searching for the gears on e-bay. There are a lot of sellers, but I´d prefer to purchase from you and get the instructions for removing MMI from dash. Any "hint" how to find your gears on the bay...??
