Forgot to mention - you will need radio removal tools T10057 to get the CD changer out:

Am sure you could find some locally, or order from the dealer like I did.

Just seen a replacement changer on ebay and I understand that 110 is mp3 and 111 is not.

The serial number is 4e0910110fe. Would this be ok please?

The AMI kit I bought came with the removal tools, so Greg may want to purchase that first and do both installs at the same time (since the patient will already be open, so to speak).

Personally, I stopped using the CD changer once I got an AMI (I put all my MP3s on a USB stick and don't have to muss with changing CDs in and out), so IMHO, I don't think it is worth upgrading the CD player to one that plays MP3s.

Same here. Skip the mp3 cd player as its a waste after you get the ami. After all those are generally mp3s as well. Plus you dot have to burn new discs everytime you want to add or play a new song.

Good point on the MP3 changer guys.
I never actually installed mine and ended up selling it (cheap) to another member here.

Yes you need it to upgrade MMI version, but if you are at 46.something AMI will work.
I can't recall the exact version but there is a good thread on it here.

Never installed AMI on my D3, so never bothered upgrading from 27.40 since everything else worked.

Minimum MMI version to support AMI in North America is 33.60. More recent upgrades tweeked it a bit. I'm personally running 46.10 (latest and greatest).

I'm not sure what to recommend to the OP as he is in the UK (but guessing 51.50), where MMI versions differ from the US (comparison chart).

Thanks for the replies and info

my reading at the moment is:

SW: D3-HU 21.2.0 0534
HW: D3-HU 6300D2.0
FC SW: 02254AUFC78KOF46f
FC PS: 0010 FC HW: H41

I hope this info helps and I can see the problem with needing to upgrade...I would sooner just get the AMI unit and drop out the CD Changer.

I advise you to keep the CD changer in place - you'll need it to perform MMI software upgrades.

Ok will do. It makes sense and reading up, adding the AMI next to the CD changer is simple enough. I am quite handy with a screw driver, so shouldn't be a problem.

It is a shame that the old CD Changer is buggered though Still this and my other problems do not detract from the fact that Audi build a fantastic car and these minor niggles can easily be sorted

Thanks for your info guys.

My replacement CD changer turned up today and after fitting it, it displays CD error on the MMI and the lights on the changer blink like a carnival...

Is this something I will have to get Audi dealers to sort or can I do this with my VAG COM cable when it turns up?
