Default Rear Passenger Digital Thermostat Control Upgrade

Does anyone know what additional parts are required to install the rear passenger digital temperature controller into a 2004 A8L? I need to know if there are additional temperature sensors, air ducts, additional a/c compressor or any other items needed for this upgrade. Any information would be helpful.

The controller is part number 4E0 919 158A or 158C

the parts that you can see and touch are just the beginning, you will need an evaporator, expansion valve, heater core, temp sensor for both rear sides, as well temp sensors for the rear outlets, plus wiring to the main unit as the main unit still takes control over the rear.

So its a real PIA to do the mod, and really not worth retro-fitting.

not in my opinion unless you want to convert your car into a limo, in that case you need the hat first

I looked into this for my 04 and it was brutally expensive and difficult. The cheapest solution is what I did. I traded it in for an 08 with the rear controls

Iam quite happy with my 2004 A8L which now has 40K mile son it and is in great condition. The rear controller is a nice feature if I had passengers sitting in the back on a regulkar basis. Since I do not have passengers regularyl and I will never be anywhere aside from the drivers seat in the car it is not a feature that I will miss at all. I thought is would be a n ice addition but is certainly not worth $1K or more to install.

Correct, it is a major task to retro-fit. The control panel is simply the visible part - the rear requires a whole series of additional servo's and distribution flaps as well as changes to the existing ducting - probably whole dashboard removal as well as carpet etc....

I actually enjoy getting carted around in my '04 but it doesn't happen often enough. That said, since mine does not have the rear CONtrols, The vents, heated seats rear vanity mirrors, rear lumbar seat adjustments and sun shades make it a pleasant ride for me and the occasional passengers I have.
