Default inner tail light fix (water damaged)

Hey everyone, so my inner tail light leds quit working the other day. I have been watching eBay for a used one. I missed out on one for $75 and now they range from $150-$370. I figured I might as well try to fix it myself. It's worth a try. So $20 later my tail light is fixed and working perfectly. What I found was the connection to the led circuit was corroded and not conducting power. I went to radio shack and purchased a new male and female connector and soldered them in. Tapped it up, and put it all back in. Working perfectly now.

Great write up. Should be a great fix. I wonder if Deoxit, contact cleaner, would have also done the trick without the need for soldering. I've used it to clear and rear ABS light before.

Two of the prongs inside the male connector were actually broken off inside the female connector. Thanks for the reference on connector cleaner though.

Love the fact you used a vga male and female connector. Great work. Makes me want to share my rear laser fog light mod.

I'd like to get to the root of the problem. Anyone know how to prevent water from entering in the first place?

The root of the problem is the edge of the lens where it meets the inside edge. I sealed mine with shoe goo, but clear silicon would work just at good. Ill try to find a picture.

+1

I actually have had 2 lenses fall off......

Time for GE 50 year clear, work it ever so lightly into the gap in the lens.
