Transmission Pan Gasket - what's it made of? (Re:2004)
So ECS has this kit and the gasket looks like very thin material. See:
and our favorite Audi place had this one - but they'd never bend us over for $ 86 for a tiny fiber gasket. Rubber maybe; silicone - certainly.
Soo I call my local transmission parts place and they stock the gasket for $30 list price and the strainer for $10 list. They are an authorized ZF distributor and have solenoids and rebuild kits, etc. So when I get the $10 strainer and the $30 gasket, I'll report back. WWW.wittrans.com. Branches all across the USA.
Strange thing is they don't sell any fluids, but they primarily sell to the trade so maybe it's hard to compete.
Anyway, what's the OEM gasket made of?
Thanks,
Tom

Factory is paper based. Word to wise...if it doesn't fit...
have the ZF distributor reconfirm the rubber or metal one actually fits the Audi pan. Better to find that out before you pull the pan... As in, the Bimmer or Jag one are different, and there are several different bolt counts and plastic and metal pan types. Have them count the bolt holes and check it to yours. Ask me how I know.
And yes, the paper based one one is no fun to keep flat as you try to get the pan in, especially since the rear filler plastic insert sticks way up and limits free sideways or front to back movement.
