So I brought my car to a indy shop to get rear brake work done. They stated that the drivers side parking brake motor needed to be replaced and would cost 500 dollars.

I agreed and they installed the new motor. Now the car is complaining about a fault in the parking brake system and it is not accepting this new motor.

He said the car is stating that it needs an update and it will have to be taken to the audi dealer and updated.

Is this true? I'm on the very first software version.

I just find it strange that it wont accept the parking brake motor without an upgrade which is costly at dealer prices.

I just had the driver side parking brake motor replaced. 3 hours labor to diagnose and repair and $597 for the motor. done at an Audi dealer. $1000 Canadian total.

Hello i have purchased the 3 cd 4l0 998 961 from ebay and thinking of doing the software update. All i want is to enable optical parking display. I have changed the parking module to the one that support optical display and recode the module but still no optical display. I have read the forum and been told an update to the mmi is necessary to enable optical display.Will this update cause any modules malfunction as i am a bit nervous. I intend to let the engine keep running as i don't have a battery charger. Is there any other way to enable optical display without the mmi update

If there is no way to enable in Mim menu then no.
I think from memory when I did mine it was just plug and play but I already had updated software.
If you have original disks should be no problem updating just make sure you battery does no go flat.

Thanks for your reply. Can i update directly from 0770 to 5570 using 4L0 998961 or do i need 4E0 906961H first to go to 1120

I think you can go straight through with 5570, but wait for someone here who has done it to make sure.
You know 5570 is for rest of the world not USA ?

There are people who haven't done squat, but will tell you what you should do. These people cost me $100 for a wrong part. There are Extremely irresponsible people here, so watch out.
"parking optical display" why the fancy name? Either a back up camera or graphical display on A8. Graphical is 2006 or earlier has no back up camera this one needs 4e0919283c. For back up camera, look at my signature and find back up camera retrofit. You may not need to update software to get these working. Don't screw up your system for nothing.

When someone tell you what you should do, ask them "have you done it? if yes, please show me the result, if NOT please send me the links of someone who actually did it"

Well I have done both the optical parking and factory reverse camera retrofits but my software was already at 5570
