Default Advice for changing brake pads on A8 4.0l Diesel D3

I have a 2004 Audi A8 4.0 Diesel Quattro.

I have a brake pad warning light and a rear parking brake warning light come on. I'd like to change the pads myself and wanted to ask your advice.

FRONT
For the front it seems fairly straight forward and no special tools required.

REAR
For the rear I am not so sure and would very much appreciated anyone's advice and suggestions.

My first question is: Are the rear brakes and parking brake pads one in the same thing or are they seperate?

Next, do I need an special tools and if so which ones.

Is there a step-by-step guide anywhere I can take a look at.

Many thanks.

Rear brakes require the use of VAGcom cable, check the link here. There is a procedure that needs to be followed when changing the rear pads.

You need VAG-COM/VCDS. Rear brake & parking pads are same (one set).

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Would the VCDS-Lite version from Ross do the job if I bought that?

Also, what lead do I need to buy for my model of car and tat software.

Thanks again

HEX+CAN cable.
You can get cheap all-in-one tools from aliexpress but the proper VCDS has no substitutes.

The one from e-bay is only a reader, you need the one from Ross-Tech.

I got a third party cable for about 60 bucks from aliexpress.

It works as you would expect but when it gives out codes it wont say what they are you will have to look them up. It will reset DTC's and service light but not sure about modifying channels and doing adaptation work, haven't tried that yet.

Those clones doesn't work properly. Besides that this is not forum that promotes hacking and stolen intellectual property.
