I wouldn´t let 2k be a dealbreaker when buying a car like this but of course the distance is a bit of a hassle.
Do you have different leather packages in the US as well? If so make sure to check out what level pkg these cars have. To me this makes a vast difference in how the interior feels so I´d gladly sacrifice for example B&O to get the FULL leather pkg with dashboard and all.
In Europe we have basically only the seats as standard. Pkg 1 is center console and door handles, pkg 2 adds glove compartment, driver´s knee panel and door panels, and pkg 3 the dashboard and top of door panels. I think that you have pkg 1 as standard in the US but might be wrong.

This car has pack 1. I have not seen any audi's with a leather dash. I have full napa leather dash, etc in my wife's X5 and its awesome. I wish Audi offered it here in the US.

I think a few of the US members here have the full package. 1 and 2 you can anyway retrofit with not too much effort/$$$ but if one of those cars also has the dash I´d take that one.
You can easily detect it even on a crappy interior shot as there are stitches on top of the passenger side of the dash closing a "flap" in the leather for the airbag to deploy through

Audi Certified warranties are no longer transferable. So unless these cars are from Audi dealers who are certifying them to you at the time of sale...

Full leather is most commonly probably seen on U.S. W12's
my CPO 2006 W12 came that way.
Using the 2008 order guide for example (where all the available theoretical option choices are laid out), it was a $3900 W12 option, $4900 S8 option and a $6400 A8L option (PL8). The prices escalate because elements of the overall package were already built into the std. spec of the given models (variously alcantera headliner and rear deck in particular); package also includes leather on the doors and a few other less obvious (to me anyway) tweaks. In the short wheel base to get it, you had to spring for the $11,500 Audi Exclusive package (PY*), whch the gets into other seat choices and such too (where again the W12 as an example is already modified in piping and such), plus more wood for the wheel, shifter, etc. For more trivia, per order guide you couldn't get the Exclusive package w/ the sport package (PST), so short of full custom Quattro GmbH leather dash and sport set up will always be a SWB non-intersection.
Astronomical new prices aside, it's luck of the draw (that has probably depreciated close to zero already) if you find it on used D3's generally, and W12's are the most likely place you would see it all on display. I would never have written the check for new car pricing, but overall effect (w/ amaretto) is very cool.

I think I'm going forward with #3. The upside:
color combo - I like a "sporty" looking car, and you cant beat black / black with the 20" sport wheels.
Options - the car has sport / prem / BO / rear climate / soft doors / leather 1 / etc -
Condition - the sales guy said its perfect, and the high res pics say its perfect as well
CPO - while I'm paying more for this car CPO is nice to have
Downside:
42k miles is a little high.
Price - I've seen decent 2008's for as low as $35k now. I'll probably take a bit of a hit on the resale. But who knows...
I'm buying the car "sight unseen". I've never done this before! I'm not sure I want to drop $500 on a flight to CALI and 2 days. Honestly, I'm not over concerned about the condition at this point.
Any last minute opinions before I pull the trigger? I'm a little nervous, but I've been looking for 2 months and I'm most excited about this specif car, even if its a bit more money than some others I've found on the market.

Ordering?
On a D...4? I think the train kind of left us on the D3's...
Correct on GmbH of course; where mine started apparently per the dealer print out, even though all the known options on the car seemed to be in the order guide at the time. It was built in April 2005 as an '06 though, which does seem pretty darn early.
