Going in today for the FOURTH replacement of r side B&O pop up speaker - is there
a point at which the Audi/B&O engineers as well as the techs realize its an electrical not mechanical problem? They remove the entire unit w/o any reverse diagnostics and never any word back from the factory to where they ship the entire part back - I just can't believe that its a fault w/ the right pop ups - I don't recall anyone else here (or over in the Q forum) having the same problem. When they work - man they work and sound great - otherwise its annoying and must be outrageously costly for Audi. Remember the flip up headlight design craze in the 70's?
Looked great until one malfunctioned then couldn't look cheesier.

I don't know much about the B&O system, but isn't there a switch to let them just stay up? I like the nav screen pop-up on my 04, for example, but I'd probably switch something if available so that it stays up. I don't ever switch it down when I'm in the vehicle. Looks like they would have made it so that the switch would work both ways and the screen stay (manual up stay/manual down stay/auto for a three-function switch). Anyhow, it's cool to have stuff pop up, but there's always the wear factor.
Audi, like most manufacturers that I've dealt with, readily replace whole sub-systems without really troubleshooting. They get reimbursed and don't really care I guess that they're not getting to the root of the problem. They should at least have some feedback as to what it is that is failing. Surely Audi must be aware of the problem part by now and implement a running manufacturing fix. I shudder at the price that you'd be charged out of warranty to just replace entire subsystems.

My vehicle required a new B&O ICE controller - the big bit in the trunk - as the ...
problem was with this unit. It controls the entire system including the pop up speaker operation.
