Default FYI: I'm selling a euro tow hitch with the wiring kit

I think someone asked about it recently, it's the removable/hidden euro version that will tow up to 5000lbs. Plug and play with no drilling.

I know there is nothing wrong with towing things with a car, I used to have a volvo with a trailer hitch, but it just seems wrong. I'll stick to my truck for towing.

I think this is very cool. I'd be the ONLY guy with a 12 cylinder tow vehicle at the local dump!!
GLWS!

Know what tow weight the D3 is rated for?
I'm looking at Airstreams, and don't want to buy a version that necessitates a truck.

Braked 2300kg, either 8 or 12% gradient. Unbraked, 750kg. 2300kg =5060lbs. Well beyond typical US Class II and many unibody/car type SUV's.

Having it, air ride makes for a lot smoother long distance ride--better than my other 2" box type hitches even with a rubber buffered tongue unit. No sag either given leveling set up of system. Mirrors aren't great though at least D3 is a wide vehicle to start; same issue w/ car type SUV's for that matter even w/ larger mirrors that don't extend. Can tell what is in next lane generally, but not straight back. If you have a camera for backing up, really handy for hooking up trailer solo on first attempt--have that on Q5.

Thanks MP4.2+6.0, that would work with a 19' (8' wide) Airstream then.

Clip on mirror extenders are standard practice in Europe when towing a trailer behind a car. They're readily available and cheap in the US too.

It only seems to be in the US that there is a misguided preconception that you can only tow stuff with an SUV or pickup.

I would suspect that stems from the days when pick ups were not subject to as strict emissions standards and were the only things available with enough motor to pull any real weight.

Not old enough I guess to when I was a kid. Back then many Buicks, Olds, Chevy Impala's, Ford LTDs, Chrysler Imperials or T&C wagons, whatever, had the hitch on the back of dad's daily driver big car. Many a famous V8 old motor in those, whether small block or big. 10mpg, 29.9 a gallon. Cents, not dollars. The leaded premium was a a few cents more. And many an Airstream and others used to be on the road behind a 4 door sedan or wagon, while many a truck was a slow 6 banger beater with hose out interior and a stick. Or actually, three on the tree, maybe w/ overdrive if it was a notch up. Then the car towing faded with the Japanese econoboxes, gas crises and then US early FWD crap.

Understood on the clip ons, but not sure Audi mirror housing shape lends itself to those. Probably something online somewhere though. Side toward rear works basically okay for lane changes and more or less what's back there--7'+ foot boat beam, 8' at wheels and fenders. Also not terribly interested in a speeding ticket while towing anyway as far as looking for Johnny Law in the rear view straight back.

Yes, a Euro boy (UK) here too and been on many a holiday as a kid in a 20" touring trailer towed by parents C3, C4 Audi's, E and S class Merc's, with a random '89 Nissan Maxima thrown in for good measure. Not at all unusual.

BTW, looks like Belmont Harbour? We have a boat down at 31st Street but it's out of the water for the winter. Was a bummer as the lake was like glass today. Would have been great! Anyway, maybe our paths will cross out on the lake next season? I'll fly an Audi flag so you know who I am...haha.
