Extended Warranty
I have a 2008 A8 with 55K miles that I have had for 3 years. My CPO warranty is about to run out in a couple of months and I need advice. An extended platinum warranty from Audi for 4yrs/48K mi will cost $6700 including tax.
I need to decide wheter the warranty is cost effective. What is the cost for repairing items that are likely to fail over the next 48K miles?
Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Email Bruce Mendel: brucem105@comcast.net
He's an independent dealer and sells the same platinum warranty for Audi the dealer is trying to sell you which is through Fidelity. Bruce is highly regarded on here and other forums.

You should do a search on extended warranties. There is a lot of info on here about people's experiences, including my own. I ended up buying the Audi Platinum warranty not from the local audi dealer ($6700) but from a dealer in upstate NY who sells them for much less (same warranty).

Do your research
I bought my 2004 A8L with 60,000 miles on it and determined a warranty was a necessity. After researching online and getting quotes, I went with Carchex, who brokered a warranty thru Alpha Warranty. It was an exclusion warranty that covered me thru 125,000 miles. Cost in the neighborhood of $4,000. Alpha was pretty good - not necessarily the quickest in turning around approvals, but they covered all the things I would have expected - electrical gremlins, new radiator, water pump, among others. Definitely got my money's worth.
Good luck.
Good luck.

My 6yr/60,000 mile platinum warranty cost about $3500 3 years ago when the car had 40,000 miles on it and was still in factory warranty.
I could not get the platinum warranty if the car was not already in factory warranty. So far it just paid $2400 for a new compressor and link bushings.
So for it to pay, I need to have $1100 more in covered repairs over the next 2 years. The car has been very reliable so far after I got many expensive issues fixed under factory warranty when I first got the car.
Some of the other expensive maintenance like new TPMS sensors and brakes are not covered under warranty.
For $6k, I'd defiantly keep the money in the bank.

I had mine worked into the purchase price but I think it was around 3500 in I remember correctly.
So far it has saved me around $1200 on upper link bushings and still has 55k miles left on warranty.
Like all warranties though, it all depends on what goes wrong with the car and when. Sort of hard to predict...

For some additional background on my experience, as stated above, I did go through an Audi dealer, but not the first one who tried to sell it to me. I did some research on this great forum to make my decision as to where to buy. The warranty, for me, has already paid for itself. I had both front struts ($1800 each part only), the control arm bushings, and the trunk motor covered so far. Total cost of repairs was @$6600 and I am $500 ($250 deductible x 2) and $3500 for the warranty. Puts me $2600 up for the total cost of the warranty and deductible.
Now, mine was a 2004 with 44,000 miles on it when I got it (under 50k miles so still qualified for the Platinum warranty even with its age), so I KNEW some things were going to go that we expensive.
