Door Closing Motor Sounds Strange
A couple of weeks ago the driver's door closing motor started making a weird sound. When I close the door light enough for the motor to complete the closing, I hear a "fluttering" sound like a servo trying to lock in on something. That sounds happens for about 1 second then I hear the normal hum of the motor and the door closes.
Any thoughts on what could be the issue? Are the door panels hard to take off on this car?

My father has an 05 A8L with the door closing assist and when he heard the motor in the door going like that he knew he had a few weeks before it stopped working altogether. The motor just died and it would not perform the soft close. Worst of all it would not lock. So if he locked the car, he wouldn't get that reassuring "beep" and that one door was completely unlocked. It could be opened and everything. Pulled the door panel off and replaced the motor. All four ended up going bad and he replaced all four.

JanPLS6,
thanks for the reply. was removing the door panel difficult? I've done it on past cars, but not an Audi.
I guess it's time to get a manual.

Its not impossible, but it can get a little tricky and aggravating. Make sure everything is pretty warm when you're taking it apart because if not then you're walking away with a lot of broken plastic pieces and clips. Once you pry off the wood trim you start to see how its held together and it becomes pretty easy but you will have to take just about everything off. Looking back on it now I seriously regret not taking a couple of pictures and doing a small write-up/DIY about it.

Not difficult, just a pita. I posted a DIY a long time ago after installing the extended leather door handles to try search for it. I think itīs uploaded to Audipages as well. If you still canīt find it I can send to to you by email.
