Common misfire cause on 4.2?
My vey rare intermittent misfire has now become more intermittent! I'm suspecting a broken down coil pack but wondered if these engines tend to suffer anything in particular?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I do not know of any thing else, but a VCDS scan might give you a more precise diagnosis.

Thanks for the reply, finally got the thing home!
Yes it had its 120k service last week. Checked oil level just now but all fine.
When I have previously checked the location of the intermittent misfire it had always been cyl 5 & 6 which I believe are the 2 next to the oil fill?
I think I will try a couple of coil packs as they're not much money and see if it goes away.
Yes I know I need vagcom. I keep wanting to buy it but something new crops up on the darn thing to pay out for! Last week it was new compressor, 120k service, brake fluid, rear discs & pads.
From the quick glance I had tonight it looks like the coilpacks just unplug the pull out? Not screwed/bolted in?
Cheers.

I'm pretty confident its not the injector as it still missfires when running on the LPG system so that rules it out.
I had the codes read today and its cyl 5 & 6 again which it was previously. I figure that if it was a sensor somewhere it would be random cylinders. So seeing as coilpacks are cheap enough I've ordered 2 in for tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!

Replaced coil packs on 5 & 6 tonight but misfire is still there but only seems to be under load around 1500rpm then clears. I need to do more driving tho really to text thoroughly.
Any thoughts?

It looks like injectors. Pour some injector cleaner in your tank. Do that next few refueling. Don't use cheap fuel.
