Oil filter question
Stupid question! What are these metal rings that came with my oil filter for? Also, It would seem my old torque mount had some kind of cap in it's plug and the connector I would expect to go to it had what was presumably a resistor.

Didn't have a D3 4.2, but a guess is bigger ring is for oil pan drain plug, and smaller ring is for the drain plug on bottom of oil filter canister?

Small ring is for the oil filter canister drain plug. The large one is for the oil drain plug on a vehicle other than the D3 4.2L engine. The correct crush ring for the engine oil drain plug is sold separately.

How can you dump the oil out of the housing? You'd have to turn the car on its side or remove the oil cooler. I guess you can suction out the oil though. If you just pull the filter out, there is probably 6-8 ounces of old oil remaining in there. That;s measured with my calibrated eyeballs.

I vacuum the oil out
I use the mighty Mitey Vac to remove the oil from the filter housing. The hose will slip alongside the filter to get the oil out.
