Hi
I need a new battery for my 2003 A8 and I wonder if there are any difficulties changing this myself? All the electronics and so on...
Any ida?

On my 2004 (D3) model, I've usually had a 12 volt power supply connected to power the car when I've removed the OEM battery to top up the electrolyte. Twice now the wires have accidentally disconnected so the car had no power.
Never any probles after reconnecting the battery for me.
Consider keeping the economy alive in Lyon Station, PA and choose a Deka Group 49 battery (for a D3 model A8)

Maybe...
that is, if it is fully disconnected with no back up power supply fed to the car for a period of at least hours.
In my case with a 2006, I pulled out the (really big!) battery to do some upgrade work involving electronic components in the battery compartment area. Thus, I had to take it out.
When I reinstlled it after a long outage, the ESP light was on, which in turn the fault code said was the steering angle sensor. I've seen that code before, and there is documentation on a simple reset. Sure enough, no parts at issue, just a code erase type thing.
All the normal pre sets--seats, radio stations, keyless entry, etc. were still saved.

I Imagine your 2006's battery is still the original Varta. My 2004 (built in mArch, 2003) is still the OEM Varta battery. Still starts the car fine. % indicator ranges from 60-90% so probably time to top it up or replace it if it fails during the next cold snap. I'm just wondering if all of them typically last this long.
Peavy, is the one in your 2003 the original battery? Is your 2003 a D3 from Europe or a D2? If a D2 is the battery a Group 49 size like the D3's?

My 2004 was built around the same time (mid 2003) I believe and I still have the original Varta battery. Same variation in charge between about 50-90%.
Mister Bally - do you ever notice your parking lights or interior lights flickering slightly while at idle? Mine do on a regular basis and I'm hoping it's just because of the old battery.

Do yo your battery from time to time? Mine is thirsty and requires at least a 1/2 cup of distilled water per cell per year. Sometimes closer to a cup when the weather is hot.

Post should say:
Do you top-up your battery from time to time? Mine is thirsty and requires at least a 1/2 cup of distilled water per cell per year. Sometimes closer to a cup when the weather is hot.[/QUOTE]

Actually, it's not...
It is a VARTA like a new car style battery rather than an Autobahn type Audi/VW one I have ended up with in other Audi's still under warranty, but a manufacture related date I found on it when I had it out is more like a year after the car was built (which was May 2005). I bought it CPO, and I guess it was changed under warranty early on for some reason.
