+2

But to fix it shouldn't be $6K. Unless they start with famous "remove engine".

I found a mechanic on craigslist that said he would charge 40 dollars to look at it. The Audi dealer says he would charge 160 which I don't mind paying but he doesn't have anything open till Monday. I'm going to call another couple of them and see if they have openings.

So from this thread and another I posted on a different site it seems like the Front suspension and bushings are the biggest cause of concern. How likely is it honestly that the front suspension fails? Should I just take a gamble and pull the trigger based on the price and carfax reports.

Here are some pictures of the car btw.

Nice setup. Looks like Northern Blue was a popular color. I know that excited can't wait feeling well but if I were you I would put a deposit on the car pending PPI from Audi. Go with Audi's inspection, I don't trust anyone to take their time for $40.00.

Over the years I have purchased 8 used Audi's. Two from private sellers, six from dealers. They were all one-owner cars. All six from the dealers were Audi certified so they extended the warrantee to 100,000 miles. Do your homework, have the car checked out by a reputable mechanic. If the price is right, buy it and enjoy the ride.
The fact that the timing belt has been replaced is a big plus!!
Regarding the air suspension, I had one of the air struts fail on my 2008 S8, the Audi service rep suggested I go online an buy one and they would install it. I did some research and found them new for $695. When the Audi service rep opened the box and looked at them he said they were Audi struts.
Can they fail, absolutely!! Would I hesitate to buy the car because they might fail, no.

Thanks for the help man.

It's hard find an opening with the Audi mechanic. I think I might just take a private mechanic or put down a deposit and pull the trigger. This seems like a really good opportunity.

That is very interesting price. Refurbished usually come for that money. Where did you find them?

You are correct, it was a rebuilt strut. My memory is failing me.
Here is the info from the thread I started back on 10/28/2013

I purchased through Buy auto parts (888)907-7225.
The compressor was $695
The strut was a rebuilt with 1 year warrantee for $695 with $300 refundable core charge.
Talked to the Audi tech and they have no problem installing the rebuilt and said for the price he would do the same.
Audi's warrantee is also 1 year.
Looks like I saved about $2,700 in parts.
Time will tell. I should have the parts on Wednesday.
