Default BACK ON THE ROAD!

Well after my transmission catastrophe I decided to drop some money into my favorite car. I got the transmission redone and also got the timing belt/water pump service done. Cost me a whopping $2530 in labor. She's back on the road now as good as new. Still working out some bugs but I am glad to have her back on the road. With new shoes too!

I had all of the parts that I needed including a replacement transmission with 68k miles on it. I took the car to Atlas Transmission here in Cleveland Ohio and they charged me $1080 to install it. I then had it towed to Swedish Solutions in Chagrin Falls Ohio and they charged me $1450. $900 for the Timing belt/water pump and thermostat. 300 for the motor mount which they supplied the part. $40 for an oil filter. Changed the oil with the oil that I supplied. After tax and shop fees came out to $1450. I am very pleased with the services from both of these businesses!

Do your carry collision insurance on it. I recently dropped $3600 on a 98 A8. with 180K miles) (Time belt, oil cooler, fuel pump and misc). Blue book (Kelly, NADA and others) puts the value at less than $1500. While the true value of any car is not written in a book but the amount someone is willing to pay for, it. insurance companies cite blue book. It's my wife's car and she only drives less than 2000 miles / yr and I don't carry insurance.

She's an extremely careful driver but "careful" doesn't mean much when someone plows into the side while standing still at a red light/

This led to another decision which was to put $3000 into collision repair which I did. Now there is $6000+ into a car that I hope doesn't get hit again.

On the possible bright side, MIchingan is a no fault state. The other guy was clearly at fault and was ticketed. MI has a thing called "mini-torte" where you can collect up to $3000 from an at-fault driver.. It's pretty automatic, if the at fault guy carries insurance. (Mini-torte is only a few bucks). His insurance would have paid, but may have balked at the blue book value. As it turns out, he got three tickets (one for at fault accident, put driving without a license AND without mandatory insurance.

Now I'm taking him to small claims court in hopes of getting the $3000. Their is no doubt, I'll win a judgement. Collecting it might be hard. hopefully, I'll garnish his pay/

I have comprehensive on my car! If it ever becomes a total loss I will get whatever it's worth at the time. It really doesn't matter what my car is worth to anyone. I like it and I'm going to keep it up and enjoy it.
