I would definitely have them recheck their work and inspect the parts. Did they properly bleed the system? You'd feel a softer brake pedal though.

Default Just a hunch in a different direction...

Go ahead and diagnose/recheck the brakes. But if that all is squared away, a hunch is to look for a front wheel bearing issue. Unrelated, other than if they pulled the rotors, then they were fooling around at the hub area, and it could have been the proverbial last straw. Or, just coincidental.

Your symptoms remind me of a possible bearing, just giving it a fresh look w/out just heading down the obvious recent brake job connection. To try to check (often kind of hard to be sure), if the noise increases as you turn one way or the other, it is likely a bearing. If you turn right at hear it more, its the left side, and vice versa. A quiet road with some sweep to the curve and all noise off inside (stereo, HVAC fan, etc.) can help check it.

BTW, how did you spend 4K on a brake job? Must have been a bunch more than that?

nah, the front air shocks/struts crapped out on me and wouldn't raise anymore and the repair was 3750.00...the majority was for parts however...only $350.00 was labor...

Where did you get the work done? I'm looking for a good indy in the Dallas area to get my timing belt done.

i was gonna take it to lord of the rings but changed my mind at the last minute...

i took it to:
J & A Auto Repair
1821 N Jupiter Rd
Richardson, TX 75081
(972) 671-5310

it's an all Vietnamese run shop that an former coworker turned me onto...in most cases the labor is far less than other shops i've quoted...

the A8 is the 1st non-american car i've owned so i thought i'd stick with them until they screw something up...

I have this issue on my 05 A8L too.

it seems to be getting worse over time.

and reminds me of when I put my Suburban in 4-wheel drive and turning and it "fights" itself.

In this case, the noise comes from the rear of the car and it doesnt matter the temperature. it does it at parking and low speeds when turning med-tight to tight.

If it is a Quattro resisting, is there a way to fix this?

I have 3 audi quattro currently and only my A8L has this issue.

Quattros can make noise in tight turns--parking lot type stuff. Haven't had it in my last three or four, but definitely did on my 96 A6.

Only suggestion to check diff fluids, which is a pain. Most importantly, look for leaks since it doesn't just evaporate.

If it's suddenly appeared and is getting noticeably worse, then you have something amiss, especially if it's noticeably coming from the rear. Check center and rear diff fluid levels, CV's and UJ's for play.

Due to the way the Torsen center diff works, "Quattro grumble" (aka transmission wind up) should only ever occur during tight turns whilst power is being applied. If you are performing the same move whilst coasting, or with very light throttle application, it should be smooth an quiet.
