I have seen a few sets floating around on VW and stance sites, so my hope is renewed that I can buy them at least stateside. Worst case use german ebay, assuming they will want to ship them. about 800 euros for a set (with tires!) plsu i assume 100-200 euros for shipping. So call it 1500. I was expecting somehwere around 1200 USD for a set so thats right in line IMO.

Thanks, folks think the car is brand new. No joke. I purchased the car in december 2014 for a little under $40k CAD. It's been absolutely amazing, except the stupid tranny hiccups I am having.

I do a lot of 401/QEW traffic. Right now on my daily commute which is 200km and 90% open highway, I am averaging 17 US MPG. In the city I average around 10-11mpg. You don't buy a full size AWD car with a V8/10/12 and loaded with tech for the fuel economy. I knew full well it was going to be a thirsty girl right out of the gate.

Having just purchased an '09 S8, I like knowing that there are only 226 others in the US. Every time I get in you know you are driving something special

OK. I have driven both A8L 4.2 Quattro and S8. I still have my S8 and my wife drives it everyday. I have a company car to drive to work.

I drove the S8 for 2 years as a DD.

It is day and night difference between A8. I even put the Fabspeed resonator bypass X-Pipe and it growls like a V10 Gallardo engine should. It performs well on sports mode, gives you an instant smile behind the wheel. I do not like the look of D4 S8 although the performance is spectacular. I couldn't find the difference in looks between A6 and A8. Waiting for D5 to come out so that I could switch.

If you are still thinking between A8 and S8, go for the S8. The price I believe has been fully depericiated. Mine with 75,000 miles has no problem besides sqeeking noise from front brakes which I will replace the pads soon.

S8 all the way. The mileage difference is worth it for that sweet v10. I have driven mine on several road trips here in the UAE and every single time I get out of it thinking that there can't be a better road trip car. It is more aggressive looking then the A8 but only those who know KNOW what it is. I love being understated compared to the rest of the cars in its class. I also have a strong love for the A8L W12 and it would be very hard to chose between the two if they were both available when I was shopping.

A8/A8L/A8L W12/S8 you can't go wrong.

What should I be looking price wise though? Like I mentioned, I will go anywhere within north america to pick up the perfect example. So if they are cheaper out west for fully optioned I will go there.

Would still like to hear some more input about the s8 mileage.
75 mph cruising steady state.. I know in town is not good on any big sedan (my ls400 is no different, ( I get 18mpg in town)

price wise-what should I be paying for, B&0, ext leather, cold weather package etc for an:

08-09 S8?
09-10 A8?
11 A8?

Im seeing guys here buying S8s for less than 20k, so I would assume A8s should be around 15k. I still see dealers asking 25k for D3 A8s, when you can buy a D4 A8 with the same amount of miles for the same price all day..

15k vs 25k is a big difference though. The difference between buying it in cash vs having to take a 10k loan or so...and I don't like loans. But if one could coop up a nice white on black, CF, B&O, cold weather, S8 for say...18k?...I would pony up the extra cash for that.

Im not too concerned with mileage, although lower is better. If I am spending $20 more a tank for A8 vs S8..not too big a deal. Somewhere around 100k miles should be right near the bottom of the curve, have any major components probably already replaced (struts, air compressor, UCA?) but still provide at least 100k miles of relatively trouble free motoring.

Again, this car will spend 90% of its time on the freeway.

Am I being crazy wanting/hoping/expecting 23-24mpg out of the V10 on the freeway?

28mpg from the D8 A8?

My GCC spec S8 gets 11.5-13.5L/100Km @ 137KPH (don't ant to get popped by the traffic cameras). That's on special here in the UAE which is roughly 96 octane.

USA should return 17-20mpg at 75mph. Let's be honest though if you are looking at used S8s as a DD MPG should be way down your priority or concern list.

So then I have to check myself again, reign myself in and take the S8 out of the equation...as much as I want it..

So again, pricing on an 09-10 A8 (some peopel want over 25k for them...no way)
and 2011 A8? (seem to be minimum 25k for these still ya?)
