I would rather see someone/company develop a replacement "air-sus" system for these cars where the owner had the ability to fiddle with (adjust) the compression and rebound dampening characteristics to dial-in a preferred handling characteristic.

"Compression" depends only on the load and can't be adjusted in any way. Only way to make it stiffer is to lower it or add some incompressible volume inside the airbag. Shock absorbers are already adjustable. If you disconnect wire from the top of each they become very stiff. I believe adding a variable resistance there would be the way to adjust it manually. It would be also the way to spoil luxury side of A8.
