I took the control unit apart and cleaned it...mainly dust...2 button were sticking on which looked like soda..cleaned..but the board itself looks good??? Maybe has to do with the pop up screen?

This happened to me before. I'd discovered that one of the button was stuck, causing the MMI to crash. It was stuck because juice was spilled on the control panel, the sugar makes it impossible to dry completely. To fix this, the button needs to be release ( though you might know if it is fully released ), and then MMI must be manually rebooted. If you can get pass the MMI warning screen in the beginning, it should be fixed.
