50 psi sanity check please...

I tried 36/32 like my 275's were but this feels better for the 285's...
not sure on the difference but it may be specific tire or size. I'm going to keep an eye on wear however.
I ran 32 all the way around on my RS6 FWIW - and while those tires wore quickly it was mostly even- other then ferocious sidewall scrubbing for unknown reasons

sometimes high inflation pressures are correct...
Lots of tires have 51psi (or similar) max ratings.
And don't worry about high inflation pressures. You won't find any warnings on the tires about overinflation. The warnings will only be for underinflation and overloading.
Depending on wheel/rim width and the car itself, and your driving style, its entirely possible that you'll need something close to 50psi (maybe your 45psi suggestion is a good place to start) in order to have the tire wear evenly.
If you find that the center of the tires are wearing more than the outer areas, then the pressure is too high.
If the outer areas are wearing more than the center of the tread area, then your pressures are too low.
If you drive aggressively, you'll end up wearing the outer tread areas faster, so having higher inflation pressures will even out your tire wear.
By the way, different model tires (same size but different model) may require different pressures in order to wear properly.
I got a lot of grief from the tire pressure ****'s in AudiWorld's wheel/tire forum some years ago when I had Dunlop SP5000 tires, and found that they needed almost all of their 51psi max pressure in order to wear properly and have good handling feel. When I followed the pressure **** advice to set pressures at 40psi, the tires wore very rapidly and unevenly (the shoulders wore quickly). For my next set of SP5000's, my pressures were set around 48psi-50psi, and I got 40,000 miles out of them, with perfectly even wear, and there was still 3/32 tread depth remaining.
Good luck.

i was reading this...
my wheels run ~42 degrees hot in the front and ~39 degrees hot in the back. i know this is because of the quattro system. do many of you guys have different starting pressures between back/front while cold? i mean do any of you try to compensate and have all four tires running at the same temp while hot?
