Default 2007 A8L. wont start.

Car turned over and then cut out. Future restarts would not see the car turnover the starter kept going. Tried shutting down... resting. Si not know how to do a test. I don't have vagcom

Had it flatbeded to repair garage my in laws bring their bimmer. May have to turn to audi of smithtown... Don't know.

Any opinions as what to look at?

This happened last week but got it to start.

Changed gas station and filled up today. Car was parked on a fairly steep incline. Rolled down to level land, still no start.

Don't know if a positional sensor is at play, that's why I mentioned it.

Thanks.

It might be rpm sensor, but without VCDS scan it's all guessing.

Thanks mishar. May need to express order one if garage doesn't have.

But like you said. .. guessing.

Two pumps work together while starting. If only one is OK engine would start. May be just longer cranking. For both of them to die at the same time would be quite a coincidence and they wouldn't come back. But they did from last week. Just more of guessing.

repair shop told me that the car started right up both times they tried this morning.

They will run diagnostics today and let me know.

Only common thing I can think of is that the car was on an incline the 2-3x this happened. but bringing the car to level ground did not remedy it, at least not right away. hmmmmm

If an incline can prevent A8 from starting Audi Chief Engineer should perform harakiri.

so, a P code came up....the tech forgot to write it down but thought it was P3089. He said it was "Electronic Fuel Management Malfunction - Intermittent"

Any advice?

Car started up a dozen times today with no problem. He spoke to an Audi specialist he refers difficult repairs to and the initial thinking is one of the relays, but he said they're difficult to get to.

Thanks again.

P3080 means that something is wrong with fuel pump electronics, including fuel pimps.

Relays involved are fuel pump relays and they are easily accessible, just next to the battery.

So how would one triage this problem seeing that quite a few components can be involved?

As far as I can see 2007 has only one fuel pump relay for both pumps, so it is more likely that is relay than two pumps. Relay also can stop and start working again. Relay is not expensive. Check here (search for: "fuel pump relay"). I would just replace it an hopefully forget it.
