The fan does not circulate a whole lot of air. Having had both and originally wishing I had it in the first S8, wish I didn't have it now.
Living in California I tell the Prius owners the solar panel will power the car at cruising speeds in the sun on the freeway.
Now if I could only convince the DMV to get a hybrid carpool lane sticker.

i located mine online bought over phone/via fedex.
vehicle was located in city that i could have family member go and test drive, before signing.
selling dealer did original delivery on lease. they had all service records available for me to review. i would be slightly concerned about buying from an independent as they may not accurately represent what you are buying. hard to say as each one is different.
i have the carbon trim, much nicer than the wood, IMO. i also have solar sun roof, and as others have said, don't really see the point. even here in florida all it does is circulate a bunch of hot air around....
all the concerns around buying a used S8 are similar to the other A8s with the 4.2. nothing that is so unique that would sway you one way or another, at least in my opinion. the W12 is a bit different beast and might have considerations you would want to account for there.

A lot of really good advice so far. Thank you.
Does anybody have input on the 2007 vs 2008 navigation systems? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Audi upgraded the VCDS from 2007 to a HDD based navigation system in 2008? Worth it? Deal breaker?

Find the nicest one out there. Focus on the options and then price. Low miles is better than high miles.

The Nav confusion perhaps is...
from an Audi press release that floated around in the 2008/9 timeframe. US/North America D3's always had the DVD based 2D Nav. in all years, and if you are on the same MMI version and same Nav. disk version, it ends up with no difference.
I think the confusion is in Europe they announced a 3D/birds eye perspective type Nav. in the late Euro D3's. Might have pushed the resolution up some and tweaked performance marginally. Few D3's got sold in the last few years of the run, and few non N.A. posters hang here from any model year, so you almost never see a post on that late enhanced Euro set up. The birds eye stuff can also be found in some later smaller Audis sold in the U.S. with the more basic all-in-one Nav. and radio controls in lieu of the separate console control panel found in the D3 and C6 (last gen. A/S 6).

Thank you for clearing up the confusion on the VCDS. I thought it was a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_CD.
The 2007 and 2008 S8s have Bluetooth capability, but what does this mean exactly? Does that mean my smartphone will, after pairing, sync to the car and allow me to play music, place phone calls, and even use apps like Google Maps through the car's audio system?
In other words, what are the capabilities/limits of the Bluetooth on the D3 S8?
