2008 has bigger side mirrors. Very useful upgrade.

I responded to Mishar's A8L "plea for mercy" on Craigslist, but it was obviously sold by then. How did the sale go? Interestingly the same */***** dealer here in Vancouver that has the 2007 A8L for sale ($10K cdn) also has a white 2006 CLS500. The CLS500 is priced at $15K usd, looks really nice too. Gorgeous in fact. I am bit leery about RWD cause I drive mountains and on the rural Vcr Island things can get pretty nasty winter time. + kinda need the 5 seater.
Some thoughts on Belts vs Chains: Belts are fantastic solution for all sorts of drive applications. They have stood the test of time and are forgiving and reliable. A belt change is an opportunity to put the car into a 2-3 day service - get everything done that needs to be done.
IMO engine tech race (and to eliminate the above inconvenience) certainly drove cam/accessory by chains development. They are a work of art. However if anything goes sideways you are really hooped. Spend some time on youtube and you'll see the engine-out work on Audi 4.2. Audi V6, BMW.s etc.
PCV generated Oil vapor deposits in FSI engines are a problem for all direct injection engines. There simply isn't the fuel to wash the oil away, if the motor is driven short duration I suppose. Again - just watched the shop guys doing engines on Youtube, it's a lot of work to clean up the intake. The furry surfaces sap power by reducing air flow.

I currently have a 2006 and i would go with the 2008 all the few upgrades are worth it in my opinion and you'll have 2 yrs up from the 06. Easier to to get to the oil filter lol on the 08s and i also think they have the newer trunk motors that give no issues like the 06s.

OP, keep in mind that there are plenty of pre-'08 owners that are willing to bash on the '08+. Honestly, who wouldn't be jealous of someone with a newer, more updated, and more expensive car? To be honest, the member "Mishar" is the only pre-'08 owner I've seen who actually speaks well of the '08+.
My '08 currently has 187k. I've spent $0.00 on timing belts. Let that soak in for a bit. Do you think the guy that paid for two timing belts services by now doesn't hate me? I'm sure he does. I would too.

I've had an 05 W12 which is really similar to an 06 4.2. I currently have an 09 W12 and all the little upgrades would help me in choosing the 08 as long as they were in similar condition.
