'07 S8 test drive impressions

Are those stock rotors? I think they are from a Cayeene turbo S or the rare "power kit". Mine were not two pieces or $960 a piece. I must say, I miss it. I didn't realized just how bad the roads are in NY. Making the enjoyment of the S8 very difficult. I don't miss the turbo lag however. The natural 10 in the S8 makes for much more enjoyable acceleration.

I just did the rear brakes for less than $300. I used the EBC RedStuff pads ($91.75) and dimpled & slotted rotors from BrakePerformance.com ($185 for the pair). Of course the labor was mine, but I enjoy mechanical chores (on my own terms ). Used the VCDS to open, close, and re-calibrate with only a minor hitch.
Other than the VCDS, the brake job is no different than any other disc brake setup. I owe many thanks to those that have posted detailed DIY's here. The information was invaluable.

If you get behind the wheel of the S8 again, be sure to put the trans. in sport mode. The standing starts are a little jerky but it's a fun ride the rest of the way!

That's a pretty entertaining story. My wife still thinks I'm absolutely ridiculous for wanting an S8 when the A4 calls it quits. She asks why I need all that horsepower. She also gives me a raised eyebrow when I tell her that if it's not an S8, it'll be an A8L. She understands the Audi nomenclature so her response is,"L? You mean, even longer than the normal one? Isn't that going to be like driving a boat?" To which my response is a slow nod of the head, a smile and a,"Oh yeahhhhh..."

Using the VCDS there is a step where you need to enter the thickness of the new pads. I kept typing in the number, but it wouldn't take. I finally figured out that I had to actually use the up & down arrows to the right of the field. When you use the arrows the TEST field below populates, which will then activate thr Test and Save functions.
Other than that, the whole thing was unremarkable compared to other disk brake jobs I've done in the past.
