Default Good time to get service (Longish)

It appears that its a good time to get service.

Got a few quotes about three months ago on some maintenance, they have come down by at least 30%. I always see what it is going to cost at a dealer, an Indy, and what I could do it for.

I.E. about a year ago I was going to do my brakes. Would have cost me about 500 in parts for all four corners, rotors, pads, fluid. I got the whole job done for $690 at a dealer.

Anyway, dealer said that people right now are forgoing some optional (read routine) maintenance on their cars. That being said told me to bring it right over and he would fit me in that day.

$300 for spark plugs installed (I thought this was a good deal so I had them do it)
They are also replacing leaking seals, and some switches that have stopped working. Oil change, and I am thinking it may be time for another tranny flush and filter change but they didn't want to do that per the lifetime fluid (I love it).

The information that I thought would be useful is that they quoted me 1,500 installed to replace the speedometer (pixels in the time and date not working) Seeing as this was $500 less than any other quotes I had received thought I would share.

Default Not sure $300 is good for plugs...

It's a really easy job and the plugs are about 8 for $44.00. But everyone's circumstance is different - some have more money than time.

And some have more time than money ;-D

Plus the dealer price on the plugs is around $12.00 each.

Default True... age old saying you can always make more money ....

but you cant make more time.

I just figured plugs were gonna cost me about 80-100 bucks and tools are out of state. I usually found quotes of around $350 for the plugs. Didn't think it was bad.

Also as I am starting out in my career I work about 60-80 Hrs a week so the weekends are too short as it is.

Maybe the prices werent that good, but I liked them. thought I would share. Also found out that the Speedo has a core charge in that quote which will take another 500 off of the price.

Default Right on...I understand that kind of work schedule.

I was pulling 80 hour work weeks for a few years until last fall. Barely anytime to work on things around the house or the cars. Now I have more time to lounge around this forum and mess with the cars. Good luck with your upstart career!!! :-)

Default Its crazy the time just slips away....

I know it really doesn't matter if its just starting out or long after you start, but its hard not to get consumed.

Always trying to get the next thing lined up. Sales is the best juggling act I have ever performed.

What does your son do?
