Various small issues
Just bought a lovely 98 A8. Very good condition but a few niggly bits. The dealer (not Audi) has been very good and fixed plenty and would be willing to take a look at these things but I wonder if there is some way I can do them myself, learn about the car, and save the hassle of taking it in:
1. rear sunshade - I've seen plenty of posts on here about this. It does work, but only occasionally, so the motor isn't completely knackered. Where should I oil / lubricate it to help it along its way, and what with?
2. headlight washers - nothing out of them when the lights are on. Any obvious place to look? Sceeen wash works fine.
3. there's a sight ticking from the engine once it's warm (ie, not when completely cold but after five minutes running you can hear it). Seems to be from the r-h side of the engine somewhere (this is a UK right-hand drive car if that changes anything). It's not loud, and is regular (maybe twice a second). It's only *audible* at rest but might be going on when the car is going - just can't hear it to make sure!

3. could possibly be the activated charcoal filter solenoid valve (# 23 on the picture). This (magnetic) valve regulates the return of petrol fumes to the charcoal filter. They sometimes get louder for some reason. I wouldn't worry too much if that's it, otherwise replace it if you find it annoying.
2. dunno really on the pre facelift. Mine (facelift) needs to be held for a few seconds with the light turned on...
1. see this thread for more on the sunscreen issue. But first make sure it isn't just the cover catching (they do that).

Re: 3. Low on oil? I've heard similar ticking from 2 different A8 engines when oil level was low.
Thanks - shouldn't be low on oil as it's just been serviced but that's an easy one to check, so I'll take a look.
