Transmission service consensus

Transmission service consensus
I have a 97 A8 with 137k miles on it. I had a transmission service done at 99k(fluid/filter). Before the service, I had the hunting issues, but after the service, none. I am having no apparent problems now, just the thump when coasting an low speeds in town. I just did a search and spent an hour reading posts about to change the fluid/filter or not, what fluid to use etc... I couldn't find a definitive answer as to what to do in my situation. Should I leave the transmission alone, should I change the filter and fluid, should I just change the fluid, what kind of fluid, should I just check the level? Thanks for any help.

Here's what I did
If you read all the posts you can go crazy. I looked at Tozo's and CalG's and decided that filter/fluid changes are a good thing. I went with Mobil 1 synthetic fluid and a generic filter on my 2001 S8 (78m miles). So far, so good. When I had the transmission on my A8 rebuilt @ 100m miles, the shop owner suggested I change the fluid/filter every 30m miles. Hope this helps.
