Default Transmission problems

Just lost my tranny at 70K in my 01 S8. The car is strong otherwise. I drive it like a grandma (Goodyear tires have 30k miles on them and 6/32 of tread left!!!)
The repairs were covered by my CPO warranty but i am beginning to wonder about the durability of my car. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Todd

Engines are solid. Transmissions are iffy. Yours in on the short side, for sure, though.

Default Reverse gone, or something else?

The former problem seems more common than all other transmission problems combined in the 2000 & newer cars. A third-party service advisory suggested that transmissions made in 1999 and 2000 had problematic seals for the clutch which engages reverse, so it may be better now. I hope so.

Default At least one other S8 reported a problem.

I hope it's not the beginning of a trend.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/121772.phtml">jmich9 tranny failure</a></li></ul>

Default Sorry to hear about your tranny loss. Maybe they can upgrade to a newer unit and you'll be solid.

Let us know if your warranty comes through as expected. Will Stammler do the work?

Default Re: Sorry to hear about your tranny loss.

So here's the skinny: I lost reverse and took the car to McDonald. I have been working with Kassie Moore and Tim Dyke in the service dept and they have been fantastic to work with on all of my car issues. The car is a CPO unit thus all of the work will cost $50. It would be nice to work with Stammler given that they are 2 miles from my house but their arrogance and the fact that they do not provide service loaners (BTW, my loaner with McDonald is a 2008 SWB A8) I am happy to drive to McDonald. Besides, I have a working relationship with those people and again cannot emphasize enough the level of professionalism of Kassie Moore.

I will keep you all updated.

Reverse gone = F-seal failure.
