Default Transmission Nightmare III

Well, the problem with the tranny dosn't seem to be the cable position adjustment as recommended several weeks ago. And now that I've actually had a chance to see the car and troubleshoot it a little I can be more clear when I describe the symptoms:

The car will start in Park. The ignition switch properly locks the tranny lever in place when off. I can then move the lever to any other position and the car remains in neutral. With the car on a hoist and the engine on, the tires will not spin with engine power, forward or reverse in any gear? The shift cable seems to rotate an arm on the left forward part of the transmission OK. The dashboard PRNDL goes to the 'limp-home' mode after about a minute. I unplugged, blew out with air, and replugged several electrical connectors in the transmission area.

ANY IDEAS? Has anybody had a transmission rebuild from TRC in the Seattle area? I'm avoiding Phoenix. I also seem to recall that transmissions can be purchased directly from ZF, thereby saving dollars compared to Audi.

Default Sounds like a seal is blown in the Clutch A housing

Sounds like you will need a rebuild.

I would call around to local transmission shops and see if they would rebuild it for the cheapest option.....

Or for probably the next cheapest, most relaible option, get a rebuilt unit from a ZF distributor and have a local shop change it out for you.

Default If all the gears missing then maybe the pump is gone.

Disconnect the transmission cooler line from the radiator and try to start it just for a sec. If the main pressure pipe pops out or cracks, the car wouldn't move in any gear.

Default This is exactly what happened to mine. Reverse did not work. Pushed it out of the driveway and drove

to the dealer. About 30 Miles. That next morning drive and reverse did not work.

Transmission had rebuild done and working smoothly. Except the Shaft seal is leaking, but will be replaced.

Audi was only 2000 more for Remanufactured which comes with a 12 month 12000 mile warranty. Warranty company did not want to pay. So they sent it out. Still didnt pay but they will.

Default Re: Transmission Nightmare III

thats the exact same thing that happend to me.

in my case i do believe the pump is toast. My car only takes 5 liters of oil. it does not circulate it one bit, when i first tried changing out the tranny oil.

my INDY is either going to try to fix it or replace it with another tranny from my parts car.
