Default Tranny Code change causes premature wear???

I recently recoded my 98 A8 tranny to 00011 from 00001. Does this change pose any mechanical danger? My tranny hunts for fourth and third gears while shifting down. 00011 seems slightly better as it holds in 4th and 5th longer. Suggestions please. It is a rebuilt tranny, $2500, in vain. Atlas Transmissions in Cleveland, OH sucks. Penn Warranty Company covers everything except what you need.

Default I'm shocked that you did something to your automobile without knowing what it was.

Your old code is the code for North America. It is designed for fuel economy and gentle rides, because Audi USA knows that what the fat, old, weak customers they cater to need, is a Lincoln Continental.

The new code you changed to is for *everyplace else in the entire world EXCEPT North America*. It is not some mystery code cooked up by Audi racers. It is not a hack. It is the transmission code that Audi uses in all it's A8s everywhere in the world EXCEPT North America.

So to answer your question: Yes, this code is extremely dangerous, and will make your A8 burn, then explode, then fall to it's death into a shark pit.

Default I laugh in the face of Danger -so I just recoded to 00001

Doesnt seem to fit the norm on the forum After reading these posts I recoded to 00001 and it seems much better
I have a CML 4 speed tip and have been running 00011 and 00012 both codes that the dealership told me my trans would not accept.[They told me only my default 00000 would work] Ha!!!
Went for a drive and noticed firmer shifts and later changing as well as more aggresive downshift.
I think it will stay 00001 as the one critism of my car that I have had is that it changes gear too early when in granny mode around town so this seems to fix that.dumb TC
The sliding shifts of 00000 compared to 00001 are hopefully a thing of the past.
Is the difference interpereted by some as thumping? if it is then thump away baby-all good

Default I coded mine to -00011 and now my car drives in reverse and reverses in drive

But in answer to his quesiton the coding should not have any negative effects on the tranny. It may make the hunting more obvious as it shifts at different points but should not be the cause of any problems.

Default Hm I don't know about thumping ...

I've been Sport coded for two years now, and I've never heard an audible thump.

Default Read one of my previous posts about this....

I have concluded based on many inputs from this site, that it does seem that people who have been "messing" with their trannys either in recoding or changing the oil that this causes the tranny to go out prematurely. In fact, my clutch A housing shattered only days after recoding my tranny.

Be careful, if yours is already hunting this is a sign that perhaps you should not change anything!
