Nope. Nuts and bolts only. There is a procedure on audipages.

Default No, you should be good. I now have 2001 A6 4.2 tranny (ECF) in my 97 A8

And I had no problems to put it in. And it works (does not hunt either). The only visible difference is a single vent on the top of the tranny (old DSM tranny didnt had that vent)

Default NOW WAIT WAIT! If an ECF works....

If an A6 4.2 ECF bolts right up and functions, why are you all spending all that money and heartache trying to cure your A8 trans???? My 01 A6 4.2 trans at 95,000 is a (dare I say) perfect trans... why aren't you installing ECF's? I have been considering a drive-by-cable (pre 2000) A8 for a year just for fun, and have held off because of the infamous hunting issue. But shoot, I might go ahead now and if/when it acts up, just go to the ECF. I have seen NO NONE EVER hunting issues over on the A6 forum.

Default Yes, my rebuild transmission does not hunt at all

It is ECF and I put may be 20 miles on since I installed it. It does not hunt at all.

so is an A6 4.2 tranny a direct bolt on? or does it need some serious modding to make it work?
