sunroof shade?
hey guys,
well, i've blown my mind finally and picked
up a 98 A8. the price was too ridiculous on
it, and i've always wanted one, so it was a
no brainer. the car is in the process of being fixed (light front end accident) so doing the t-belt and various other maintenance.
my car has a solar roof, but the shade that generally you can open or close on most cars, doesn't have a handle on mine. like it only opens WITH the sunroof. i've seen pics of A8's with the shade open before, so what's the deal here? certain year only? can i swap one from another car?
thanks

Re: sunroof shade?
If you have the warm weather package (solar roof) the shade is attached to the framework of the glass so it all sides back and forth as one unit.
There is no way to slide just the shade back. I suppose you could remove the shade but I'm not certain you would like what you see when you looked at the bottom of the solar panels.

Re: sunroof shade?
hmmmmmmm.
i didn't know that. so models with solar
roofs are all like that? bummer. on my
passat i basically roll 24/7 with the shade
open, i'm just so used to it now.
i'll do some further investigation.
thanks!

Ditto for me...I wanted the Moon Roof! I live in Seattle...what would I do with a solar roof!
AND, I prefer watching the rain fall on the moon roof instead of just hearing it!

Blower
Hey
The solar panel powers the blower motor
"as long as the sun shines".
No wonder those armatures wear out!
Once every ten years? These things should be garaged when not in use.
'Worth it on a hot summer day.

you can easily swap out for a glass panel moonroof and sliding shade...
...you will not need to drop the headliner, but you work from the top, the opening for the sunroof.
If you can source the parts (the glass panel and the shade panel), probably about an hour of DIY, and all you need is a T25 torx driver and a philips head screwdriver.
