i cannot for the life of me get this transmission to hunt. i have a 98 a8 with 83k, i do however still get the thump when i let off the gas. i dont know about everyone else on here but i hate the thump more than the hunt. what we live with for these damn cars...... just curious if anyone else experienced this.

That's what puzzled me about discussions on transmission hunting problems.
I live in Europe (Netherlands) and drive a 1999 2.8 V6 A8, currently at 156k kilometers/97k miles. The transmission is smooth as silk, no hunting whatsoever. I assume mine has a 'European' setup, aka sports setup.
Could this hunting finds it's source in larger engines (sounds unlikely) or European setup (might be an idea)?
I can detect a thump if I reapply throttle, but only if I really pay attention.
What does help me is a bi-monthly reset of the automatic to erase anything it has 'learned'. (ignition on, 10 seconds slowly pushing throttle to stop, 15 seconds hold, 10 seconds slowly releasing throttle.)

i am curios since changing to sprt mode fixed my hunting if anyone outside the u.s. has hunting issues? could it be that the coding we use in the use is too soft and wears out the torque converter clutch?
