Default S8 Transmission Whine

I replaced my transmission fluid and filter a couple of days ago and now I have a whine in my transmission. It shifts ok and the whine gets less as the car warms up, but I am concerned especially since a new transmission for my car is about $8K.

Just to give details on the job in case you have any ideas...

Drained fluid
Took off pan
Removed filter
Removed gasket
Cleaned pan
Put on new gasket
Installed new filter w/O ring
Installed pan
Filled pan till overflowed
Started car and ran through gears
Added more fluid
All in all, added 5 liters of Pentosin ATF1

Could someone please give me an idea of what the issue might be...

Default Agreed....or....

You need to break off the suction of the ATF filter about 1/2", some of the filters have too long of a neck. That puts them in very close proximity to the bottom of the pan and cause cavitation/suction problems, especially when cold.

Default Re: check level again, when cold. the fluid expands a lot when warm and 5 liters seems light.

Thank you, I will try adding some more tonight after the car cools down to see if that is the issue. I will let you know the result tomorrow

Default Re: it needs to be cold

I have to drive the car about 50 miles this evening for a meeting... won't I be at high risk of a serious problem if I don't take care of this today?

Default It's $4k+ for a rebuild and $5k+ for a refurb here in Cleveland.

...or just drive it to Chicago and get it done right for $3,500...

Default Added a litre and it appears to be fixed... we will see

So I added an additional litre of ATF and the whine apppears to be resolved. I will drive it a few days before I give a final verdict.
