Default I vote yes

I understand your dilemma. Just get the 911 and don't look back.

I had to part with a big chunk of savings for my upgrade (some here would say downgrade). I debated it with my wife for six months It was not financially smart.

I haven't regretted it for a second. Granted, you are looking to get rid of your Bimmer. I am all smiles when I hit the gas pedal in mine.

Default damn....that does look nice... I can't really have a 2nd car right now....too nomadic

I move every year or 2 years with my career. Can't have more junk to lug around. I've finally got rid of my multiple sets of wheels from the A8 a week ago! I need one car and a duffle bag and I'm off to somewhere new. I'm soo glad my last move with the S2000 and A8 went smoothly (local move thank god). I think I'm going to hold off for a year or 2. I figure by then, even though my car will have depreciated accordingly, the depreciation will have leveled off a bit.

Default Went throughthe same dilemma with a 993c4

Wanted one since childhood and finally did it. It was amazing to have it in the garage. Rarely drove it and did not want it to get scratched. I ended up selling it after 6 months and made 6k on it. That was 5 years ago and I am now looking for another. This time I want the c2, the c4 has a lot of understeer.

Funny thing is I was thinking of selling my 03 S8 for a 2006 530i with the sport package. Can you comment on the your experinece?

Default I will say that BMW service is pretty nice. Its better than Audi...but then again..I wasn't taking

in a 10 year old car!

The 530i sport package will be a little more brisk than my car, but you will miss the power of the S8 for sure, if you are into that (which I'm assuming or you'd own an A8) The fuel economy would be a giant step forward. The interior design is more modern. For me, the interior is one of the main reasons I got mine. Its not made as well as the D2s....but few cars are nowadays. Its quiet....dead quiet at 90+mph! Very smooth. The suspension is compliant, comfortable, yet I don't feel like its a boat. The seats are not as nice as the A8...I don't know why, but my A8, I just sunk in and they were phenomenal for long trips! The car is.....dime a dozen! That is one of the drawbacks for me. I like being somewhat unique. D2s were very unique. The transmission doesn't have issues...but does have its unique behaviors. I like the fact that when it shifts, it lets off the throttle and re-engages the TC. It has a manual transmission feel to it. The tiptronic shifts way faster than the Audis. I guess at the end of the day... its a pretty nice car. If you aren't concerned with the fuel economy, I'd get the 550i. Much more go! Those things would probably walk a D2 S8. Hope my insights give you a better idea. I do like the toys in the i-drive! Its cool that a lot of the electronic bits and upgrades are seemless integration to the car now!
