Default New and just bought a A8 D2 3.7 V8

Hi, I have been a member on this site for a while because I have always been a fan of good old fashioned German cars and owned a few BMW's, VW's, Audis, Mercs, Skodas and Seats

I own a 1990 Mercedes 308D recovery truck that I have put a 2.4TD engine in from the old Mercedes 240

A 1998 LWB T4 transporter van 102bhp I am converting to a day van

And my latest addition to the fleet a dark green 1996 Audi A8/S8 rep 3.7 V8 sport

As always with vehicles I buy they have their issues but as I am a self employed auto electrician and know a lot of people in the car trade I can get them up to scratch pretty fast and save money as well, I have a few issues with the A8 that I would appreciate any help with

First of all the most annoying issue is the fuel gauge and the range, yesterday I ran out of fuel while the gauge was reading 1/4 and the range reading 45 miles, I have removed the tank sender and cleaned it up a bit but tonight it has just jumped from 120 miles to 80 miles from restarting the car after less than 1 mile of sensible driving.

When I move the gear selector from drive to triptronic I get to perform one gear selection before the dash goes back to the auto style, had VAGCOM on and it says open or short to ground with the triptronic switch, where could I get one of these switches and what are they like to change?

Timing belt is my main worry, they're due at 80k, mine has 90k on it now and Ive just priced up a timing belt kit £470! so I will be inspecting it to see if it has been changed recently.

If anyone is breaking one of these, I need quite a few interior and exterior bits like drivers arm rest, triptronic switch, body trim missing off the bottom of the rear arch etc. I have always liked the look of the A8 and similar sized german cars like the 7 series BMW but could never afford a one, everybody thinks I'm mad buying a 3.7 V8 but if its a car you like you don't mind spending that bit extra on fuel to drive a nice big comfortable and luxury vehicle.

Any help or info on these cars is much appreciated
