New to forum. Need help please, '03 A8L will not start
I did some paint and detail work on a '03 A8L. Here's my problem, when my window tint guy did the windows he left the key forward in the 2nd position for 4 hours. At about the 3rd hour he told me the battery was dead. We put a charger on it while he finished up the windows. After that I disconnected the battery and put it on the charger over night. It was the original battery and was toasted. I got a new battery, hooked it up, turned the key to the 2nd position for 5 seconds then back to off. At 1st the car would start, idle fine for about a minute then idle ruff and die. Now it turns over fine but won't start. EPC lights up green. Having the charger on the battery and cables so the windows would work did that wreck or reset something else? The owner's manual is no help, just says go to the dealer. I'm a paint and body guy that really only does mechanical work on pre-computer cars. What am I doing wrong? Does something need to be reset or replaced with the computers? Any help would be great, I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealer. Makes me nervous with the fresh paint. Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Do you have a check engine light on, can you read the codes?
The check engine light is on and the EPC light is green. What do I need to be able to read the codes? I'm really in the dark when it comes to computer cars, but I can follow directions well. Thanks for the guidance.

You need to find someone with VAG COM on their laptop.
That way, you can pull the codes and find out what's wrong.

http://www.ross-tech.com/</a

Thanks for the info. It's looking like I'm going to have to take it into the dealer, just hope they'll be careful with the paint. I don't know anyone in Milwaukee, WI with that program.

Well...
Depending on how much you were willing to spend to solve the problem, I would advise possibly purchasing it yourself.
It might not sound like the best option at first, but you have to keep in mind the dealer will charge you as well. Not only that, but there is the possibility of paint damage occuring at the dealership.
If you were unaware, when you buy the VAG COM setup you are really just buying a special cable that unlocks the software. Point is, you could easily turn around and sell the cable for close to what you paid after using it.

you can just use a regular OBD-tool that autozone/advanced auto have..
(well at least on my '99 D2 i can use the OBD...but i have vag-com now)
they'll just give you generic codes, but at least u can post them here and someone can give u the possible cause.
