Default My car wants to keep going faster! Any ideas???

Okay, does anyone have any idea what might be wrong here? A couple days ago my tranny went into fail-safe mode, and was fine after I turned it off and on again. I just noticed today that if I'm going 40mph or below, it accelerates slowly by itself without my foot on the gas and maintains its speed if I'm going around 60mph. I turned it off and on again and it did the same thing and I don't think its a cruise control issue because of how slowly it accelerates. Can anyone give me some info please?

Thanks!

Default MY? Pre- or post-facelift? Mechanical or FBW throttle?

BTW, have you tried exorcism?

Default I'm not the only one... uninitiated acceleration

Haven't yet tried exorcism, however thats the best option I've got up to this point. After doing some research on different threads, it appears this has happened before in cold weather with A8's and A6's. I'm in MN and its been below 0 for over a week now and the cold seems to be the problem.

Default If you have a pre-facelift car, lubricating the throttle cable should fix it.....

If you have a 2000 or newer A8, then something else is going on. Use a good silicone spray lube or a very light grease if you have a cable.

Default Yup, mine did the same thing this morning

Extra cold here in Chicago. It seemed like the engine couldn't figure out what gear I was in. I stopped and put the car in park and revved the engine a couple of times and the problem seemed to go away. can't wait to see if it happens again tomorrow.

Try switching off the cruise control in case it has gone bad
