Default My car needs a diet

Ugh..moving woes again. I'm trying to tow my car on a flatbed car carrier to move, but I am getting static from the truck rental people saying my car is too fat. I tried to tell them it's just big boned, but they won't believe me.

In all seriousness, does anyone know the exact weight (give or take 50 lbs.) of a

2002 S8 with a 1/4 tank of fuel and no one in it?

The max on the carrier is 4080 lbs. I can't believe the car is heavier than that, but their computers say it is. I was just going to lie about the type of car, but I don't want it to be so heavy as I snap off the trailer hitch and cause a 20 car pileup on the highway. Disconnecting the rear wheels is not an option as I have no idea how to do that, or have any tools to do it.

In Holland, a driver-less, full-options pre-facelift 4.2Q with a full tank is 1900Kg (4189 pounds)

Default Well, according to my calculations

you are 27lbs. too heavy. I took the //S8's <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/96681.phtml">curb weight (actual weight w/o passengers)</a> plus the <a href="https://www.audiworld.com/model/">23.8 gallon fuel tank capacity</a>, divided by 4, and multiplied by <a href="http://www.santacruzpl.org/readyref/files/g-l/gasoline.shtml">6.5lbs. (weight of gallon of gas</a> = 4107 lbs.

Conclusion: empty the tank and you're good to go!

My sources are highlighted as links.

Default Scales in Holland are subjected to a different G :)

At least this is what my mother in law is saying when we tell her that European women are not as "heavy" as American women

Default maybe remove the spare tyre as well.

but the 4080 weight limit has some safety factor in the design, so I wouldn't worry that if you put 4200 lbs would create a pileup

Default Many truckstops have scales that can weigh it and they will give you a weight slip

You could take the spare tire and tools out and make sure the gas tank is near E, should get you under 4080 I would think. You could even drain all 2 gallons out of the washer fluid if it is really close.

Default Re: Well, according to my calculations

Awesome. I thank all of you so much. I'm going to take out the spare, tools and empty the glovebox out and get the tank as empty as is reasonably possible. If I cause 20 deaths on the interstate, I'll blame no one here.

This economy is so cruddy, I had to accept a job out of state for the 6 months before law school starts. It was that or sell my car, and of course I'm not doing that. =D

Default Car and Driver reported 3840 lb

IIRC from their original review of the '01 S8, which is what I used in this 2003 <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/36145.phtml">Weight Distribution Revisited</a> post.

My 99A8 weighed 3906 on the scale. I don't know how much fuel.
