I've determined that I have a head gasket leak. Should I fix it or dump the car?

My tech is telling me to dump it. Damn, I just decided that I would like to keep it for awhile too. It's a 98 with 97K. Opinions appreciated!

It really comes down to economics and what you like to drive......
The head gasket replacement is what- about $1200? You could sell it with a bad head gasket for maybe $12K. What else could you buy and drive for that little money that would even come close to the driving experience of the A8? Unless the head gasket failed in such a way as to cause significant engine damage (unlikely), I think that investing $1200 to get it up to snuff is well worth it. Properly maintained, these vehicles will last for well over 250K miles, and still look goodand perfrom well. If your are itching for a new ride, by all means dump it!

I totally agree with you, but then again, you gotta know when to say when in terms of repairs to an older car IMO. I would definitely replace it with an Audi, most likely an S8. After 8 quattros, I'm not going anywhere.
